Disciple of Means
It is not lost on me that the passage about these beautiful women is followed by a parable on sowing. These women were true sowers. They not only gave from financial resource, but they gave of their time, attention and affection. They loved and gave with abandon.
What is that like? To put aside worry. To put aside agenda. To slay fear. To just do what gives life? There is no reason to believe they didn’t have to shut down inner shame dialogue. That they didn’t have to put aside the opinions of others. Even the opinions of their fellow disciples.
I am encouraged as I move into a new chapter in serving my God, to see how these wise women did not allow their past or their status to hinder the call. They pushed because their prize was Jesus–Savior of the World. And so too, I push.

“Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him, and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities—Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance.”

“Jesus, in this day, teach me to see who you see. What fellowship treasures do you have for me in friendships I wouldn’t naturally seek? What events are you unfolding—in a place my feet wouldn’t normally wander—that you want me to eyewitness? Take me there. Help me to step out of conformity and into discipleship. Amen.” ~~JOANNA by Beth Guckenberger
